Most of the time furniture gets moved around the globe safely and gets delivered to the consumer’s door in perfect condition. There are times that furniture is damaged in transit. Hooker Furniture is only responsible for defective merchandise, not handling damage (both obvious damage – such as a crushed carton or a crushed corner, and also concealed damage – such as merchandise shifting in an intact carton). Metro Designs’ freight carrier is Shelba D Johnson Trucking. All reputable freight carriers are insured for this type of damage and each carrier has it’s own rules, forms and time frames for submitting a freight claim. As your dealer, Metro Designs will collect the required information and submit claims to Shelba Johnson for processing. Shelba’s claim form can be found here. If a carton comes in crushed, refuse the delivery. It is the freight carrier’s responsibility to either fix or replace the item for refused pieces without the need to file a claim. If you accept the delivery, note any carton damage on the delivery slip that is signed. This documents the issue. Take pictures of the cartons, then inspect the piece. Take pictures of the whole piece and also the affected areas. Submit information to Metro Designs as soon as possible for timely submission. This will ensure all your bases are covered and your claim will be processed smoothly. Shelba Johnson provides a 15 day concealed damage claim window from warehouse delivery date. Claims not filed within the claim window will be denied.
