August has claimed two furniture manufacturers. Klaussner – Comfort Design announced it was ceasing operations on August 7th, and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams abruptly ceased operations on August 27th. The largest of these entities have a common theme . . . poor fiscal responsibility. Also, in recent months, numerous smaller manufacturers you never heard of have shut their doors. It is an unfortunate situation for the workers of these companies, the dealers, designers, and consumers who relied on their products. This leaves an untold number of pending orders in limbo. Sadly, it is likely additional announcements will come in both the retail and wholesale sectors.
For alternatives consider Hooker Furnishings M line for what Mitchell Gold produced. Also consider HF Custom, Bradington-Young, and Hooker Upholstery as alternatives to Klaussner Comfort Design’s offerings.
During difficult and unstable times people look for safe harbor. For designers looking for alternative sources, Hooker Furnishings is 12 brands strong. At any given time, they have $70M to $100M paid for, not leveraged, inventory. Honesty, integrity, and transparency has kept the company thriving for 99 years and into the future.
Metro Designs is a proud design trade source for a brand that is on solid footing and expanding as others close their doors.
